Microsoft to Invest in UAE for AI, Cloud Expansion

(MENAFN) US technology leader Microsoft revealed on Monday that it plans to pour $7.9 billion into the United Arab Emirates (UAE) between 2026 and 2029, focusing primarily on artificial intelligence and cloud computing infrastructure.

According to Microsoft, a digital statement confirmed that an AI program was initiated in 2023 with the backing and cooperation of both the US and UAE governments.

The company indicated that this project is part of a broader commitment, totaling $15.2 billion in investment within the UAE over a span of seven years.

“This includes our $1.5 billion equity investment in G42, more than $4.6 billion in capital expenses in advanced AI and cloud datacenters in the country, and more than $1.2 billion in local operating expenses and the cost of goods sold,” the firm stated.

The corporation added that from early 2026 through late 2029, it plans to allocate more than $7.9 billion across various sectors in the UAE.

“This includes more than $5.5 billion in capital expenses for ongoing and planned expansion of our AI and cloud infrastructure, including new steps we will share publicly in Abu Dhabi this week. It also includes almost $2.4 billion in planned local operating expenses and the cost of goods sold,” Microsoft clarified.

Furthermore, Microsoft disclosed on Monday that it had secured export licenses allowing the company to deliver Nvidia chips to the UAE.

The enterprise explained that these export approvals—granted in September—were based on “updated and stringent technology safeguards.”

It also emphasized that it became the first company under US President Donald Trump’s administration to receive such authorization from the Commerce Department.
